10 Tips for a Varied Summer Vacation

We grew up here, know every corner, every hidden spot
and each of our favorite places in the area - and exactly
these tips we are happy to share with you so that you can enjoy Flachau and the surroundings
just as much as we do.

We are aware that many associate Flachau primarily with winter activities.

Maybe because they have never visited us in the warm season.

We have gathered our personal favorite excursions for you.

Activities that we would do ourselves and can recommend from the heart.

1. Johanness waterfall in Untertauern

About 60 meters of water crashes over steep rock walls into the depths: A natural spectacle that never fails to amaze us. The approximately one-hour hiking trail to the waterfall leads along the adventure path "Alles Alm" from the Gnadenalm in Untertauern. Particularly impressive is the secured passage directly behind the waterfall, which is traversed on the way back.

  • Distance from the hotel to the hiking starting point: 27 km

2. Alpaca Hike in Wagrain

At Kitzsteingut in Wagrain, Bernhard Maurer lives his passion for alpacas. At around 1,300 meters above sea level, he runs his farm in a quiet secluded location and offers guided hikes with the animals. Walking through nature together with the alpacas is really fun and has a calming effect at the same time.

  • Distance from the hotel: 13 km

3. Cooling off at Reitdorfer bathing lake

The two swimming lakes in Reitdorf are easily accessible by bike and are an ideal alternative to the hotel pool. Bicycles can be borrowed from us at the loj free of charge. Perfect for hot summer days.

  • Distance from the hotel: 3.5 km

4. Hike to Tappenkarsee lake

First of all, it should be mentioned: This tour is demanding and requires good footwear as well as some fitness. For that, one of the most beautiful mountain lakes in the Alps awaits at the top.

  • Distance from the hotel to the hiking starting point: 26 km

5. Giant Ice Cave in Werfen

The ride on the steepest cable car in Austria is an experience in itself. In the largest ice cave in the world, guided tours through a fascinating ice world await you. Even in summer, the temperatures here are below zero, so warm clothing and sturdy shoes are absolutely necessary. We like to call it the "special kind of cooling".

  • Distance from the hotel: 33 km

6. Stopover at the Kurzeggalm alpine pasture in Kleinarl

Here, bread and bacon are still homemade, and after the hike or bike tour, a perfect Brettljause awaits. The route leads through forests and meadows up to 1,709 meters and rewards with a view that makes you forget every effort.

  • Distance from the hotel to the starting point: 19.5 km

7. A Visit to Ennsei Hans at his alpine pasture

The "Ennsei Hans" is a Flatauer original and welcomes his guests at the Hintere Marbachalm with snacks, a shot, and a casual joke. Our tip: definitely try the fluffy Kaiserschmarren as a dessert.

  • Distance from the hotel to the starting point: 14 km

8. Liechtensteinklamm gorge

The Liechtensteinklamm is by no means a hidden gem, but for us it is one of the "must-see" attractions in the Salzburg region. The path leads about a kilometer deep into the gorge over walkways, bridges, and stairs. Those who are lucky might even spot rainbows in the fine mist.

  • Distance from the hotel: 26 km

9. Forest, Forest, Forest

In summer, we are always drawn to the forest for a natural cool-down. The newly designed path of good wishes is perfect for this. Along the circular path, 45 boards with positive thoughts remind us of things that often get overlooked in everyday life.

  • Distance from the hotel: 1 km

10. Free Travel to Salzburg with Public Transport

With the Guest Mobility Ticket, you can travel for free on public transport throughout the Salzburg region. Perfect for exploring the city of Salzburg for a day. Strolling through the old town, enjoying a coffee by the Salzach, and then heading back to the mountains – a combination that we love.

  • Distance to the bus stop: 200 m
